We are returning to King’s House Conference Centre in central Manchester for its Reward in the NHS 2025 event.

The event is free to attend and is aimed at those with a responsibility for reward in NHS organisations.

The event will once again bring together NHS decision makers, budget holders and influencers to hear the latest thinking, share good practice and equip delegates with innovative and practical reward information to take back into their own organisations to help them enhance existing resources within their total reward offer for greater impact in the face of continued workforce challenges.

Programme

This is subject to change.

Morning sessions

  • Pick up your pass, grab a drink and take a look around our exhibition.

  • Welcome from our conference chair.

Paul Wallace, Director of Employment Relations and Reward, NHS Employers

  • In this session Billy will look at how an individual’s needs vary at different stages of their career and how expectations change over time. He will draw on some general trends and recent analysis of the NHS staff survey, to explore the impact these issues have on recruitment, retention and satisfaction, with some ideas on how the NHS will need to adapt to make a health care career more attractive and keep staff in the service for longer.

Billy Palmer, Senior Fellow, The Nuffield Trust

  • Discover how Vivup Perkbox supports the NHS by generating savings, boosting engagement, enhancing culture, and providing cost-effective wellbeing and employee benefits.

Learn how these initiatives, when implemented correctly, can be cash neutral for your trust:

    • Combatting the upcoming NI Increases: strategies to mitigate the financial impact of National Insurance hikes.
    • Elevating employee wellbeing: initiatives to support and enhance your organisational culture.
    • Cost-effective reward and benefits solutions: tools to help recruit and retain top talent.
    • Supportive communication approaches: effective methods to foster a positive and engaging workplace environment.

Louis Kwakye, Group Chief Revenue Officer, Perkbox Vivup

  • Take a break and grab some refreshments. Don't forget to see our exhibitors that have a range of practical resources and ideas to support you and take back to your organisation.

Breakout sessions

11:45-12:15

  • Fireside chat exploring how Devon trust has transformed its recognition strategy on a small budget to gain the biggest impact for staff.

Linsey Clements, Head of Employee Experience, Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

  • This panel session will focus on how staff have helped improve reward and recognition initiatives within NHS organisations and what the impact of this has been. This will closely link with the “we each have a voice that counts” element of the NHS People Promise and will look at how trusts gain feedback, support and advice from staff members to really understand what they want from the total reward offer and drive improvements.

    Panel members:

    • Ruth Dalton, Group Director of Communications, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust
    • Christine Hardy, OD Practitioner, The Together Trust
    • Rebecca Carlin, Senior OD and Workforce Manager, Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland ICB

Afternoon sessions

  • In this session, Claire will talk about how we can use behavioural science to generate effective communications for pensions, reward and recognition in the NHS.

Claire Hovey, Director of Behavioural Science, Acuity

  • We will break for an hour's lunch, where you can catch up with colleagues and visit our exhibitors.

  • Adam will share how his approach to providing reward on a budget that maximises impact for staff and generates savings to reinvest in the workforce.

Adam Kirton, Assistant Director of Workforce, Pay, Policy and Reward, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

  • Grab a drink and head to the exhibition.

  • This space will provide you with the opportunity to come together in small groups to share ideas and good practice on key reward issues and common challenges. The 30 minute table discussion will take a similar format to that of the share and learn in our Reward and Recognition Network, and will be a great chance for you to engage with other colleagues across the NHS on shared successes, challenges and issues for reward and recognition.

  • By pushing past your boundaries, you can unlock new opportunities, inspire success, and create meaningful change.

Natalie Jutla, Recognition, Employee Financial Wellbeing and Benefits Lead, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)

  • The chair will end the day with a round up of final thoughts.

Paul Wallace, Director of Employment Relations and Reward, NHS Employers
