Specialist grade appointment guidance
Resources for employers to help transition associate specialists to the new specialist grade as part of the SAS contract reform 2021.
This guidance has been developed to support employers which are transitioning doctors from the associate specialist grade into the specialist grade and with the collation of evidence against the capabilities framework. It provides:
- additional clarity for employers on the transition process for associate specialists moving to the specialist grade
- an easy-to-use template, along with accompanying guidance, on how doctors can evidence that they meet the criteria in the capabilities framework.
Where the term ‘specialist’ is used in this document and web page, it is used to denote doctors and dentists employed on the specialist grade (England) 2021 contract.
