Updates to expired BRP and BRC when travelling
The Home Office has announced that for travel purposes, expired Biometric Resident Cards (BRCs) and Biometric Resident Permits (BRPs) can be accepted to enter the UK until 31 March 2025.
This will allow travellers to use a BRP or EU Settlement Scheme BRC expiring on or after 31 December 2024 as valid evidence of permission to travel.
The roll-out of eVisas is continuing and is not being postponed. However, the Home Office is putting in place temporary measures for the beginning of 2025, to smooth the transition to eVisas.
The online right to work and rent services can continue to be used to prove their rights. This includes using an expired BRP to access the service, as long as the person has valid immigration status. There is no date from the Home Office on when expired BRPs will no longer be able to be used to generate a share code for right to work or rent checks.
The NHS Employment Check Standards for right to work and identity checks will be updated in January to reflect the rollout of eVisas.
The latest version of the eVisa partner pack can be downloaded from the GOV.uk website.
