The GMC's vision for the future of medical education and training
The GMC has released its position on the vision for the future of medical education and training.
This position statement outlines a comprehensive program aimed at revising and enhancing medical education and training in the UK for both medical students and doctors.
The GMC will continue its responsibility in ensuring patient safety, maintaining standards, assessing outcomes, assuring competency, and supporting diversity principles are met.
The plan includes addressing three areas, by working in collaboration with partners across the four UK nations.
- Area 1: Building a bigger, more diverse, and better-supported multidisciplinary educator workforce.
- Area 2: Contributing to the development of changes in pre-qualification education.
- Area 3: Supporting career development and lifelong learning.
Achieving these objectives requires a concerted system-wide approach, and there are a number of areas that will need to be driven forward by the government, organisations, employers, medical schools and education bodies.
