The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced that the UK will provide a multi-million-pound boost to support, build and strengthen the health workforces in Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana as part of the Global Health Workforce Programme.
£15 million from the government’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget has been allocated to support healthcare workforces in Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana.
This will be split into a £6 million contribution to the World Health Organisation to work with governments to support workforce planning, management and policy, and a £9 million investment in partnership working between the UK and these three countries to strengthen regulation, training and retention.
