In this session, NHS Employers will be joined by representatives from the Home Office and NHS Business Services Authority (BSA) who will discuss employers' sponsorship responsibilities while employing overseas staff.
Speakers and agenda
The session will be chaired by Vickie Hage, programme lead for international and domestic workforce supply at NHS Employers. She will be joined by representatives from the Home Office, who will speak on the importance of maintaining sponsorship duties to support international recruitment, as well as speakers from NHS BSA to discuss how the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) can support in maintaining these responsibilities.
The agenda will include presentations from the Home Office and NHS BSA, as well as dedicated time for questions and answers.
Who should attend
This webinar is aimed at HR and international recruitment leads at NHS trusts, as well a Level 1 users and authorising officers of the Home Office Sponsorship Management System (SMS).
The event will not be recorded; however, questions and answers from the webinar will be posted on our website following the event.
You can register for the event and your request will be approved by the international recruitment team. Confirmed attendees will get sign in details in due course.
Learning objectives
At the end of this session, attendees will:
- learn about sponsorship responsibilities that employers have for their internationally recruited staff
- learn about topics including supplementary work, updating the SMS, and updates on sponsorship transformation work
- learn about possible enforcement actions for failure to uphold their responsibilities
- know what actions you need to take as employers and NHS trusts.
This webinar will focus on employers maintaining their sponsorship duties for international recruitment.

The Home Office have confirmed that information viewable in an online Right to Work check (using the view and prove service) is sufficient to maintain employer’s statutory excuse.

These questions will guide our presenters to tailor their presentations to the operational needs of NHS trusts.
There will also be a chance to submit questions during the event, and as many as possible will be answered on the day.
