Our staff experience programme provides employers with a broad range of support and resources aimed at improving staff experience across the NHS and at a local organisational level. 

Our programme actively engages with employers and workforce leads across staff experience, staff engagement and health and wellbeing, offering a space to exchange ideas, share good practice and understand workplace challenges.

All our work is underpinned by the aims of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan to improve the workplace experience of our valued NHS people.

  • Staff experience – Our staff experience hub details the importance of staff experience and how employers can bring the NHS People Promise to life. It also features key learning and insights from NHS trusts. The information and resources can be used to strengthen local approaches to ultimately enhance staff experience.
  • Health and wellbeing – Our health and wellbeing hub promotes physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, providing advice and guidance on a variety of themes. We have a free to join health and wellbeing network specifically for health and wellbeing leads to connect, share good practice and find out what’s happening across NHS wellbeing.
  • Staff engagement - Our staff engagement hub shares resources and guidance on the role of staff engagement in improving staff experience. It covers the NHS Staff Survey in detail, analysing the importance of this annual feedback in supporting the retention the NHS workforce.
  • Retention - Our retention hub includes resources and guidance to support the retention of our workforce through a range of approaches. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan places a key focus on retention, setting out how the service will address workforce challenges by recruiting and retaining more staff and improving the experience of both staff and patients. 
  • Cost of living - Our cost of living hub pulls together long- and short-term solutions to support employees with the rising cost of living. We feature our key enablers, providing targeted information on key themes, as well as guidance, publications and case studies from organisations which have introduced cost of living strategies into the workplace.
