Danny Mortimer responds to the NAO report on Skilled Worker Visas

19 March 2025

Responding to the National Audit Office (NAO) report on changes to the Skilled Worker Visas, Danny Mortimer co-chair of the Cavendish Coalition and chief executive of NHS Employers (part of the NHS Confederation) said:

“We welcome the report by the National Audit Office on the skilled worker visa route and their recommendations to have better co-ordination across government departments to address local skills shortages and have called for the need to find a resolution to the exploitation of migrant workers in social care.

“The report highlights that local authorities are not always aware when sponsor licences have been revoked, information which is held by with the Home Office. However, recent changes to the Immigration Rules have been made which puts the onus on employers to ensure they have considered displaced individuals before undertaking international recruitment. To allow this to happen, we need someone to take responsibility of quickly putting in place a straightforward process to help fill some of the social care workforce vacancies.”
