Government funding for ICBs to tackle economic inactivity
In March 2023, the government introduced WorkWell, a new health and disability service aimed at addressing the economic inactivity resulting from long-term sickness or disability.
Developed in collaboration between the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care, WorkWell is designed to provide holistic support, integrating work and health services. The primary objective is to assist approximately 60,000 individuals with disabilities for those on extended sick leave in securing and maintaining employment while achieving success in the workplace.
Backed by £57 million, WorkWell will be accessible to 15 integrated care boards (ICBs), to support the fourth pillar of the integrated care services (ICS) to help the NHS support broader social and economic development. Find out more about WorkWell.
