Published in May 2016, The Nuffield Trust's Reshaping the workforce to deliver the care patients need report highlighted the need to reshape the non-medical workforce to support new models of care. Opportunities were identified across all grades of the workforce, although it was recognised that active support from national bodies was required to allow providers to deliver the scale of workforce change needed.
We are aware that much good practice already exists across the NHS with regards to new ways of working and the development of new, extended and advanced roles. While innovative practice is often pioneered at a local level, we also know that missing the opportunity to share experiences among employers can lead to wasted effort and a lack of consistency in the job titles and descriptions surrounding new roles.
