Workforce supply resources
NHS Employers have produced a series of resources to support employers around workforce supply issues and these are available below.
Reducing agency spend: a spotlight on agency staffing
The first in our series of workforce supply events took place on 20 July 2015.
A range of tips and suggestions were gathered at the event which are available to download in the document managing temporary staff
The shape of your workforce
The second in our series of workforce supply events took place on 7 September 2015 and focussed on understanding of the shape and make-up of the workforce to make the most of their skills.
This event held on 20 October 2015 looked at the different approaches that employers have used to attract the most talented people looking for work, a change in career or returning to the NHS workforce.
Accessing recruitment support through Jobcentre Plus
Our recent webinar explored how working with Jobcentre Plus (JCP) can help employers. The presentation highlighted some of the practical and free support available and outlined how JCP can help organisations to:
- target and find young people
- assess their suitability
- prepare them for the work place
- provide access to a range of opportunities.
Download the slides from this webinar.
Further information about the support available is on our JobCentre Plus web pages.
If you have any questions about working with JCP or would like help to identify the relationship managers in your area then contact Lisa Atkin, programme lead at Lisa.Atkin@nhsemployers.org.
Retaining staff - the impact of staff experience
Our November 2015 event featured examples of retention good practice. Delegates heard about a range of different approaches and had the opportunity to think about what might work in their organisation.
Developing an effective workforce strategy can improve staff experience and effectiveness, enabling them to provide the best patient care possible. Further information can be found on our strategic workforce supply web page.
Retaining staff – through the generations
The second of our events on the theme of staff retention was held on 4 February 2016. Delegates heard that up to four generations of staff now work within the NHS, and how retention rates can be improved by understanding their different motivational needs.
What does good practice recruitment look like?
The final event in the workforce supply series focused on the theme of sharing good practice recruitment examples from across the NHS and was held on 30 March 2016 in Leeds. Delegates heard from a range of speakers covering the employment recruitment journey about recruitment campaigns, on-boarding and recruiting for values, as well as how different trust have unearthed hidden talent pools in their local areas.
