Managing conflicts of interest

Book stack

To protect patients, taxpayers and staff employed in organisations in which there is a direct state interest, new guidance, developed by NHS England, came into force on 1 June 2017 to provide information on what you need to do to effectively manage conflicts of interest.

The guidance is applicable to both NHS trusts and foundation trusts and covers a number of key themes. It also provides:

  • consistent principles and rules for managing conflicts of interest
  • advice to staff and organisations about what to do in common situations
  • support for good judgment about how interests should be approached and managed.

In addition to the guidance, a number of other useful documents are available on the NHS England website, which include a model policy and template forms for declarations on interest and creating a register of interests.

In case you missed the launch of this new guidance, our website now provides a helpful summary of the key points and links to further sources of information.
