Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, has written an article for the Nursing Times looking at how apprenticeships will play an important role in shaping the future NHS workforce.
Published for National Apprenticeship Week, Danny acknowledges that the apprenticeship levy offers a challenge to NHS organisations, but goes on to explain that he believes it will give employers the chance to think creatively about their approach to recruitment and retention. He also explores how the new education and training models can be used to support the long-term development of those entering the healthcare, working across various roles.
In the piece, Danny writes: “... it’s imperative we celebrate the achievements of our apprentices across the NHS and recognise the commitment involved in making NHS apprenticeships a huge success. However, I do not believe we’ve yet seen the best of what NHS apprenticeships have to offer.”
