Responding to the NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard 2016 Data Analysis Report For NHS Trusts, Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, said:

“The latest report from NHS England on workforce race equality shows some progress – but there is much more work to do.

"It is important to acknowledge the progress the nursing profession has made in improving the representation of BME colleagues in senior posts. It is also important to learn lessons from those organisations who have taken action to improve.

"Nonetheless, the fact remains that BME staff have a poorer experience than their white colleagues, and our patients receive poorer care as a result.

“NHS Employers will continue to provide support through our networks in these areas and across the board. Equality remains at the heart of the health service, and reports like this are a timely reminder of the need for us to keep focused and maintain momentum as we continue to work towards the eradication of discrimination and harassment against our BME staff.”
