Improving your understanding of the NHS Pension Scheme:Information for HR teams

The introduction of the 2015 NHS Pension Scheme has linked normal pension age to state pension age. This means that over 70 per cent of the NHS workforce will not be able to access their full pension benefits until they are in their mid to late 60s, and some will have a pension age of 68. 

The Working Longer Group (WLG) has identified that a good understanding of the NHS Pension Scheme can be an effective way of enabling and encouraging staff to stay in work until their later pension age. 

The WLG has worked with NHS Pensions to produce this information pack for HR teams, to help them improve their knowledge of the NHS Pension Scheme and its provisions. The pack is designed to help HR teams understand the scheme from a strategic workforce planning perspective.

The pack is easy to download and share with colleagues, and can be used as a reference point or as a training and induction resource for HR team members.
